A York brewery is looking back to the city’s Norse heritage as it celebrates its ninth birthday.

Brew York has launched its Nine Realms Ale Series, a limited-edition collection of twelve unique beers, to celebrate the progress the brewery has made over the years.

Inspired by the legendary Nine Realms of Norse mythology, this series showcases nine exclusive collaborations with some of Brew York’s favourite breweries, alongside three extra-special birthday releases.

The journey begins in April, with the first four beers hitting the shelves. The remaining eight will be released individually every month.

The first release on Tuesday April 8, is Odin’s Gaze- a 5.2 per cent New England IPA.

In collaboration with Northern Monk, Brew York pays tribute to Asgard, the realm of the Aesir gods and Odin’s great hall.

Brew York says Odin’s Gaze is bursting with bold hop character and delivers waves of juicy grapefruit, ripe peach, and tropical fruits.

Tuesday April 15 sees the launch of three Ninth Birthday Beers.

Cosmic Coil is a 4.5 per cent Cherry and Peach Sour, Celestial Steel is a 8.5 per cent Chocolate and Matcha Parfait Stout and Fenrir’s How, an 11 per cent Whisky and Bourbon BA Spiced Imperial Stout.

Cosmic Coil is by Jörmungandr, the World Serpent, who coils around the Earth in an eternal loop.

Brew York says this bold sour ale blends tart cherry and sweet peach to create a truly mythic flavour experience.

Celestial Steel honours Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged steed.

Brew York says this decadent stout combines rich chocolate and earthy matcha, delivering a velvety body and a perfectly balanced flavour profile.

Fenhir’s Howl is named after Fenrir, the monstrous Norse wolf.

Brew York says the barrel-aged imperial stout is a beast of a beer capturing Fenrir’s ferocity with deep, warming bourbon and whisky character, layered with rich spice and dark malt complexity.

The eight remaining beers will be released every month until the end of 2025.

Lee Graham, Production Director and Co-Founder of Brew York, said: "At Brew York, we’ve always been passionate about pushing the boundaries of brewing while staying true to the traditions that inspire us.

“With the Nine Realms Ale Series, we’re not just celebrating our ninth anniversary—we’re also paying tribute to York’s deep-rooted Viking history.

“The Norse influence runs through the heart of this city, and we wanted to honour that legacy with a collection of beers that captures the spirit of mythology, storytelling, and craftsmanship."
