Despite murder mysteries typically being on the heavier side, she insists this Netflix gem is a cut above the rest. "I'm currently halfway through The Residence, which is the new Shondaland series on Netflix, so let's talk about it," she kicked off the video, diving into what makes the show stand out.

"Okay, so The Residence is a 'who has done it' murder mystery. There's a plot-free mystery because there's 132 locked rooms, over 114 suspects, and it's based in the White House. So they bring in this detective, Cordelia Cupp, to solve this murder mystery," she detailed.

Kemi confessed that it's the first time she's managed to plough through a murder mystery in just a couple of days, as she usually needs a breather to digest the twists and turns. But The Residence?

"It's different", she says, ticking all the boxes for the ultimate binge-worthy series. So, if you're on the hunt for your next TV obsession, take Kemi's word for it – The Residence is where it's at.

1. 'Perfect' casting

Kemi couldn't hold back her praise for the spot-on casting of Cordelia in the new hit series, gushing about Uzo Aduba's performance. She said: "Uzo Aduba from Orange Is the New Black is the one starring as Cordelia Cupp, this world famous detective, and I think she's the perfect [actress] to play this, because she's so funny.

"Not in a way that she's actively making jokes, she's doesn't think she's funny, she's just got a wit. And the type of wit that this character has and needs, I think Uzo was the perfect casting."

Kemi also added: "She was really weird and unnerving in Orange is the New Black, and I feel like that kind of vibe carried over onto this show, and it was perfect."

2. Unusual storytelling

Kemi delved into her personal viewing habits, sharing that she typically watches murder mysteries with friends rather than alone due to anxiety. However, the Residence stood out to her.

"But there's something different to this murder mystery," she remarked. "It almost feels like the people in the show know that we're watching them solve a murder mystery, it's kind of funny. I really do enjoy it."

3. You're part of the investigation - alongside a real senator

Kemi excitedly shared her thoughts on the new series saying: "One thing that I really like about this show so far is that the story of the murder is actually being told through an investigation," and then clarified: "I don't know what it's called but your in their court house and the senators are doing an investigation on to what happened - that's literally what's happening. So they're describing it to the senators."

She also let slip a quirky detail about the cast: "His name is Alan Franklin, and he's actually a senator so that's a little bit funny," while discussing how the plot unfolds before the senators.

Kemi added: "But anyway, they're telling the murder mystery to them, and we are being taken through that murder mystery and how we're getting to the investigation part is a really interesting, and I think it can 100% catch your attention, like I can not stop watching it since I started it yesterday."

The eagerly awaited first season of The Residence made its debut on March 20, 2025, and folks can now binge-watch it on Netflix.
